Organized Chaos

Project Type:

Hospitality - Ballroom Carpet Design

Software:

- Adobe Photoshop & InDesign

Date:

October, 2024

Traditional French gardens seek to exert full control over shaping nature to the landscape designer's whim. While this is technically a beautiful feat, I wondered what it would be like to plan a colorful, blooming, and billowing garden within this rigid structure. Organized Chaos seeks to display the perfect marriage between the precise geometric garden plans indicative of Royal French architecture and the organic, bright and wild landscapes of Monet's Garden, which he built at his home in Giverny. This carpet design for a ballroom and pre-function area acts as a top-down view of a garden plan, featuring geometric carved planting areas, hand-painted symbols representing various flora, and stylized floral cartouche ornamentation commonly seen on interior rugs.

This project was designed under the guidelines of the 2024 Durkan DSCVR Student Design Competition.
